Rob's Album 7 Liner Notes
Wow, I can't believe I'm writing liner notes for the seventh Liberty's Exiles album! It seems like only yesterday that Simon and I were wrapping up the first album. We wrapped this album up in June of 2014, and I've been listening to this album a lot since then.
I think one of things I really noticed about this album is how much we're growing as a band. There seems to a progression in our music that's changing slowly, but it's still there. It's kind of cool to see us growing, and writing bigger, and better material each time out!
"LE VII" is, I think, a very melodic record. With songs like "You Took My Heart", "The Sins of the Father", and of course "Another Year Gone Tomorrow", the music is just so beautiful. And the vocals, delivered by Talby himself, are, as always, fantastic.
One big difference on this album is that I sing on a few songs. The lead cut, "Another Page To Turn", features my backing vocals on the chorus. I take center stage, so to speak, on "The Life I Need", and "A Child's Life", so those two songs are kind of different for us. I had a lot of fun doing the vocals, and hope to do some more in the future.
The album artwork was created by my son (then 12 years old), Robbie, who saw a post I made last year asking if anybody could help us get a band photo together. And just like his dad, he's a bit of a smart ass, and whipped this beautiful work of art together in a minute. Little did I know, Simon was holding this smart-ass picture, ready to use it for this albums artwork. So thanks to Robbie, I love you kid!
Overall, I think this album is a great one, and it is a big step in our direction as a band, as we move forward. So, I hope you like it. And as always, let us know what you think, because your feedback is very important.
Before I go, I'd like to dedicate my contributions to this album, to Mr. Simon "Talby" Talbot, the best music writing partner a guy could have. And to Jamie Gates, who was awake with me as I readied these songs for release, and has become a very good friend.
Thanks all, and we'll see on the eighth album... our first concept album! (I can say no more at this time... wink)
